Casino App Permissions on Android: Overlay, Accessibility and the Rest
ME777 reads games from their spec sheets. An app has a spec sheet too: its permission list. It tells you what the software is able to do on your phone, whatever the splash screen says. ME777 is an independent guide, not a casino. It takes no deposits, runs no games and ships no app. This page is for readers aged 21+ deciding whether to tap Allow.

The permission sheet: twelve requests, judged
| Permission | What it allows | Does a casino app need it? |
|---|---|---|
| Network access | Connecting to the internet | Yes. Granted automatically |
| Camera | Taking a photo | Only during a KYC selfie. Allow 'only this time' |
| Photos or files | Reading images you select | Only to upload an ID. Use the photo picker, not full access |
| Location | Knowing where the phone is | Possibly, for a jurisdiction check. 'While using' at most |
| Notifications | Posting alerts | No. Optional, and mostly marketing |
| SMS | Reading and sending texts | No. This is how one-time codes are intercepted |
| Contacts | Reading your address book | No |
| Phone and call logs | Seeing calls and device identity | No |
| Microphone | Recording audio | No |
| Display over other apps | Drawing on top of whatever is on screen | No. Refuse |
| Accessibility service | Reading the screen and performing taps for you | No. Refuse and uninstall |
| Device admin, or install unknown apps | Resisting removal; installing further apps | Never |
Overlay and accessibility: why these two matter most
Display over other apps lets software paint a window above another app. Used honestly, it powers chat bubbles. Used dishonestly, it lays a fake login form over your e-wallet so that the PIN you type goes to the wrong place, or covers a confirmation dialog with an innocent-looking button.
An accessibility service exists to help people who cannot use a touchscreen in the usual way. To do that it can read what is on screen and press things on your behalf. Malicious apps request it because the same power lets them read a one-time code as it arrives, open a wallet and approve a transfer. Android shows a stark warning before enabling it. Take that warning literally.
A game lobby has no functional need for either. If an installer walks you through enabling them 'for a smoother experience', the experience being smoothed is not yours.
Where to find and revoke permissions
- Open Settings, then Apps, and select the app.
- Tap Permissions and set anything unnecessary to Don't allow.
- Go back to Apps and find Special app access. Check 'Display over other apps', 'Install unknown apps' and 'Device admin apps'.
- Open Settings, Accessibility, and look under installed or downloaded apps. Nothing casino-related belongs there.
- If the app refuses to run without a permission it should not need, uninstall it. That refusal is the finding.
Menu names vary slightly between phone makers, but every recent Android version has these screens. Recent versions also remove permissions automatically from apps you have not opened for months, and show an indicator when the camera or microphone is active. If that indicator lights up while a slot is spinning, close the app and look at what you granted.
Why the app is probably not from a store
Google Play accepts real-money gambling apps only from licensed operators that apply and are approved for a given country. Apple likewise expects licensing and geo-restriction. A small number of large licensed Philippine operators have listings. Many brands do not go through the process and distribute outside the stores. A store listing shows a permissions summary and a data-safety label before you install; a loose file shows nothing until the prompts appear.
APK defined
APK is the Android package format, the file that contains an app. Installing one obtained from a website is called sideloading. The file includes a manifest, which is the list of permissions the app intends to request, so in a literal sense the spec sheet travels inside the package. ME777 does not host, mirror or link to any install file.
Sideloading risks beyond permissions
- Fake builds: a copy of the brand's interface made by someone else, usually to capture credentials.
- Malware: additional code inside an app that otherwise works.
- No auto-update: fixes do not arrive by themselves, so the build you installed is the build you keep.
- No refunds: no store stands behind the transaction or the software.
- Permission creep: an 'update' file may request more than the original did. Read the prompts every time, not only the first.
Checklist before installing
- Confirm the operator's exact domain appears on PAGCOR's published list.
- Try the mobile website. A site in a browser cannot obtain overlay or accessibility powers at all.
- Download only from the verified domain.
- Leave Play Protect on, and do not disable it on request.
- Read each permission prompt and deny by default.
- After installing, revoke 'install unknown apps' for the browser you used.
- Review the app's permissions again after every update.
iPhone: a different model
iPhones do not install APK files and have no equivalent of the overlay permission. What is called an iOS casino app is usually the website saved to the Home Screen. The iPhone risk to watch is a configuration profile or an enterprise certificate you are asked to trust. Decline both; a web game does not need them.
Hardware, storage and Android version
Operators set minimum requirements and should publish them. Speaking generally, newer Android versions ask for permissions one at a time and let you grant them for a single use, which is exactly the control this page relies on. A phone on a very old version grants more at install with less choice, and is a poor home for anything connected to money. Keep a few gigabytes free; games cache their assets as you open them, and a phone with no spare storage closes apps unpredictably, sometimes in the middle of a payment step.
Data and battery
Slot rounds are small exchanges of data once a game has loaded. The first load of each title is larger, and live dealer video is continuous. A permission detail belongs here as well: an app allowed unrestricted background activity uses data and battery when you are not playing. Restrict background usage in the app's settings page.
Notifications and tracking
Notification permission is separate from 'notification access'. The first lets the app post its own alerts, mostly promotions, and can simply be declined. The second lets an app read every notification on the phone, including messages and codes, and should never be given to a game. For tracking, assume the app records sessions and device identifiers; without a store data-safety label, the operator's privacy policy is the only statement of what is shared.
Troubleshooting and who to ask
| Symptom | Check | Who to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Login loop | Cookies and site data, automatic date and time, VPN off, cache cleared | Operator support on its verified domain |
| Blank screen | Android System WebView update, free storage, connection | Operator support; name the game if only one fails |
| Deposit not credited | Wallet history: status, reference, recipient | Operator support with the reference; if unresolved, the wallet's in-app help |
| Stream not loading | Other video apps, signal, data saver | Operator support after ruling out your network |
| Update failed | Storage; same source as before; any new permissions requested | Operator support. Never accept a file from an agent |
ME777 cannot see or change any account. Balance questions go to the operator; wallet questions go to the wallet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which permissions should a casino app have?
Network access, plus camera or photo access only at the moment you upload KYC documents. Everything else is optional or unnecessary.
The app says it needs accessibility to work. Is that true?
No. A game lobby does not need to read your screen or tap for you. Uninstall it.
What is 'display over other apps' used for in scams?
To place a fake screen over a real app, such as your e-wallet, so that what you type or tap goes somewhere you did not intend.
Can the mobile website get these permissions?
No. A site in a browser can ask for camera, location or notifications, but not overlay or accessibility control.
I already granted accessibility. What now?
Revoke it in Settings, uninstall the app, change your wallet MPIN and passwords from another device, and review recent transactions.
Does ME777 distribute an app?
No. ME777 is a guide with no downloads, cashier or games.
Is camera permission safe for KYC?
Yes when granted for a single use on a licensed operator's verification page. Choose 'only this time'.
Why does an update ask for new permissions?
Sometimes for a new feature, sometimes because the file is not from the original developer. Treat new requests as a fresh decision.
